Contract role from 15 September 2019 to 30 June 2021 at the Commonwealth Offices in Dudley Park, South Australia.  There is an option to extend by a further period of 1 year at the Commonwealth’s discretion. Mechanical Engineering expertise in submarine propulsion and energy who wouldn’t mind working in Adelaide, we would like to hear from you.

Seeking a Propulsion & Energy (P&E) Senior Mechanical Engineer on site at the Future Submarine Office in Dudley Park, South Australia to provide engineering services including:

  • Review of allocated contracted deliverables and technical data within the allocated timeframes;
  • Review, analyse and report upon submarine design performance, safety, operational effectiveness and environmental issues throughout the acquisition;
  • Provide engineering advice to the Propulsion and Energy Lead;
  • Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders, including Commonwealth Industry Partners, RAN, Defence Science and Technology Group and others as necessary;
  • Support the development of Science and Technology research activities in the Propulsion and Energy domain;
  • Provide tasking to other Platform Delivery Team members and co-ordinate their work to achieve required outcomes;
  • Training and mentoring other team members; and
  • Other related duties as required by the Propulsion and Energy Lead.

Evaluation Criteria (noting “must” means a mandatory requirement):

  • must have strong interpersonal and project skills to ensure sufficient correspondence and updates (technical, schedule and cost) are provided to the Commonwealth;
  • must have demonstrated experience in critical thinking and analytical skills in the submarine support system domain; and
  • must have applied knowledge and demonstrated experience in the submarine Propulsion & Energy space.
  • Must hold a NV1 clearance or higher.
  • In addition, the following qualifications and experience are considered highly desirable for the position:
    • Engineering degree accredited or eligible for accreditation with Engineers Australia;
    • Engineers Australia Stage 1 competency standard for Professional Engineering recognition (or ability to obtain status as a Professional Engineer within three months);
    • Design or design assurance experience and knowledge of the following subject matter areas:
      • Main Power Generation System, including Submarine diesel generators; Induction and Exhaust Systems; Fuel and Fuel Compensation Systems; and Diesel Seawater Cooling System;
      • Emergency Propulsion Systems; and
      • Naval Ship shaftline (excluding Pump Jet).
