A long-term contract (12 months, plus extensions) from 2 Dec 19 in Canberra, seeking 2 x Systems Engineers (Geospatial) to provide technical support and sustainment to supplement and work with the System Reliability Engineering (SRE) team.

The role is to work under broad direction of the System Manager to:

  • Respond to support requests in a timely and efficient manner with an empathetic focus on customer needs and to provide a timely and satisfactory solution.
  • In conjunction with the System Manager, develop an operational strategy for support and maintenance/sustainment.
  • Remain abreast of changes in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud services capabilities and the software applications they support in order to provide the best support service to customers.
  • Provide back-up support in the event that the Service Desk is unavailable.
  • One Engineer will provide Tier 2 (Level 2) and Tier 3 (Level 3) technical support.
  • One Engineer will maintain and effect the ongoing sustainment of Jetstream to ensure maximised operation with minimal or no down-time. This will require monitoring of Jetstream, being aware of relevant software upgrades, service packs, patches and hot-fixes and working with the Jetstream System Manager and Change Administration Board to plan for and implement these upgrades, service packs, patches and hot-fixes together with a roll-back strategy.

Essential Technical Competencies

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in Amazon Web Services (AWS) services and in particular:
  • Compute services;
  • Storage & archival services;
  • Database services and replication methodologies;
  • Network & Content Delivery services and network connectivity options;
  • Migration services;
  • Management tools and services;
  • Security, Identity & Compliance services;
  • Analytics services;
  • Application Services;
  • Messaging services; and
  • Desktop and App Streaming services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in AWS security features and best practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in AWS design and implementation for elasticity and scalability.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in AWS self-healing techniques, fault-tolerant services and disaster recovery and fail-over strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in deployment and management within AWS.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in general ICT including:
  • large-scale distributed systems
  • multi-tier architectures
  • loose coupling
  • system performance tuning
  • network concepts
  • RESTful web services, XML and JSON
  • Information and application security concepts including public key encryption, remote access, access credentials, and certificate-based authentication
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in cloud security, the risks, threats and protective measures and treatments that can be implemented.
  • Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting Linux and Windows based environments.

Desirable Technical Competencies:

  • Good working knowledge of the Australian Government Information Security Manual and the ability to implement technical solutions that comply with its controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Defence to achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to knowledge sharing effectively to technical professionals.
  • AWS certifications will be well regarded. AWS Certifications will be viewed favourably as evidence supporting claims of competency but are not essential.
  • Knowledge of software stack management including ESRI and Elastic.

A minimum active security clearance of NV1 or higher is required to be considered for this role.
